~50Years in Business
Our Story
Built From the Ground Up, Deep in the Hardwoods
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Mr. Keller — then a logger — grew frustrated
with the log prices offered by Mead Hardwoods, the only sawmill in town. After several
conversations about fair pricing, he took matters into his own hands: he bought the
land on which our mill now stands, began offloading logs and holding monthly log sales,
and built from there.
What started as a log yard grew into a small circle mill, and finally to the size we
are today — shipping several trailer loads of wood products every day to local, regional,
national, and international customers.
"I would rather make a friendship that lasts a lifetime than a business deal that is over in one day."
— Mr. Keller, Founder
Growth aside, we remain a small, family-owned company with a family feel and mentality.
Nothing makes us happier than serving people with their wood product needs — and if we
can't sell you something, we simply enjoy meeting and fellowshipping with new people.
We produce the finest Appalachian hardwood lumber available — primarily green red and
white oak, walnut, poplar, cherry, and ash. We also carry dimensional pine and custom
pieces like live edge walnut, cherry, and maple.
We pay top dollar for open-market hardwood logs — typically using the Doyle scaling
system, and also by the ton. We are the area's top buyer of veneer white oak and
walnut. Sell us your wood.
We don't just buy timber — we manage land. As one of the largest landowners in the
area, we offer full land management services including timber harvesting, rock
harvesting, replanting, and hunting development.
Keller Lumber produces the finest Appalachian hardwood lumber available. Our main
product is green hardwood lumber, particularly red oak, white oak,
walnut, poplar, cherry, and ash — shipped daily to local, regional, national, and
international buyers.
In addition to standard sawn lumber, we carry dimensional pine and custom hardwood
pieces including live edge walnut, cherry, and maple slabs. Whether
you're a furniture maker, flooring manufacturer, or millwork shop, we have material
to fit your operation.
We purchase open-market timber using the Doyle scaling system — and also buy by the ton
when applicable. As the area's #1 buyer of veneer white oak and walnut, we have the
relationships and volume to offer consistently competitive prices.
01
Doyle Scale Purchasing
Our primary buying method. We use the Doyle log rule to measure and price your
hardwood logs — a time-honored, transparent system that rewards quality timber.
We're fair, fast, and consistent.
02
Tonnage Buying
For certain species and applications we also purchase wood by the ton. This can
simplify logistics for loggers with mixed or lower-grade loads. Call us to discuss
which method works best for your material.
03
Veneer Oak & Walnut
We are the area's top buyer of veneer white oak and walnut —
high-value species that demand precise grading and a buyer who understands the
veneer market. We pay premium prices for premium logs.
Land Management
We Think Like Landowners — Because We Are
At Keller Lumber, we don't think of ourselves as timber buyers — because buying timber
is such a small part of the overall process we call Land Management. We are
one of the largest landowners in the region, managing tens of thousands of acres, and
we bring that experience to every property we touch.
We understand what it takes to make a piece of property the best it can be — not just
for a single harvest, but for generations to come. Our team is led by professionals
committed to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) standards.
